Ducati Superleggera V4: How Ducati made its fastest production bike ever

Remember how we told you that Ducati was secretly working on a faster Panigale V4? Well, the company has revealed that bike along with other details about it. And simply put, we are mighty impressed by this fastest Ducati bike. Previously codenamed Project 1708, the bike is christened Ducati Superleggera V4. Noticed how it doesn’t include the ‘Panigale’ name? Well, that’s because the company wants to bring all the attention to the ‘Superlegera’ part (which means super-light in Italian). To put things into perspective, the Superleggera V4 weighs only 152.2 kg (with racing kit), making it almost 20 kg lighter than Panigale V4 R. This reduction in weight has been achieved because of extensive use of especially developed carbon fibre parts. The Superleggera V4 is so exclusive that the company has decided to make only 500 individually numbered examples of this superbike.

Claudio Domenicalli, CEO, Ducati Motor Holding, said,  “The new Superleggera V4 is, first and foremost, a true statement. It is where we draw the line between trying and doing. It is our foremost pioneristic creature. Superleggera V4 is not only our most precious production motorbike, it is a totalizing experience that brings you inside Ducati.”

Ducati Superleggera V4 has been designed in collaboration with Ducati Corse MotoGP team. As a matter of fact, the Superleggera V4 gets an all new carbon fibre front frame and carbon fibre bi-plane wings. The Italian motorcycle maker has also used carbon fibre for fairing, wheels, and even mudguards.

Powering the Ducati Superleggera V4 is the Desmosedici 998 cc V4 engine that has been made lighter and re-tuned to churn out 221 bhp and 119 Nm of peak torque with the racing exhaust. The engine continues to be offered in combination with a six-speed gearbox with DQS up/down quickshifter.  The suspension setup on the bike includes fully adjustable 43 mm Ohlins NPX25/30 USD with fully adjustable Ohlins TTX36 mono shock. Ducati has also equipped the Superleggera V4 with Ducati Power Launch system, cornering ABS, Ducati Traction Control system, Ducati Wheelie Control, Ducati Slide Control, and different riding modes.

Needless to say, the Ducati Superleggera V4 will come sporting a hefty price tag. And given that only 500 units will be sold, we think only a handful could be allotted to India. But if you manage to get your hands on one, then that opens the door for you to Ducati SBK experience wherein you will be able to ride the official Aruba.it Racing Ducati Team superbike.
