LOT #715 – 2015 MERCEDES-BENZ S65 AMG – NO RESERVE

In the land of Mercedes-Benz, the S-Class is the automaker’s top-tier offering. If you want an ultra-luxurious two-door rocket ship with a back seat, look no further than the 2015 Mercedes-Benz S65 AMG coupe.

According to Mercedes-Benz, each model in the history of the S-Class has made its mark on the automotive landscape. It is known to have consistently set new and previously unimaginable standards in automotive engineering since its inception in 1951 with the Mercedes-Benz 220. The model received the letter S in 1954 and became known as the Mercedes-Benz S220. In 1972, it officially became known as the S-Class.

Although the Mercedes-Benz V12 engine didn’t hit the streets until the 1990s, the automaker had mulled over the idea of putting a V12 in its flagship models since the 1960s. After several attempts and scraped projects, Mercedes-Benz got serious about the V12 in 1985 after learning that BMW would equip its 7 Series models with a V12. The result of Mercedes-Benz’s efforts was the M120 V12 that was first rolled out in the S-Class in 1991. The 6.0-liter came from the factory with 402 horsepower and 428 ft/lbs of torque. The first V12 allowed the S-Class to sprint from 0 to 60 mph in just over six seconds.

In 2015, the S-Class coupe blasted past its traditional BMW and Audi rivals and found itself comfortably in Bentley and Rolls-Royce territory. The S65 AMG exists for the most discerning, for whom only a V12 will do.

The V12 garnered its reputation as the most exclusive engine reserved for the finest of automobiles in the 1920s and ’30s, when cars driven by the most elite bore little resemblance to the mass-market machines average consumers could afford. The V12 remains a mark of distinction beyond the reach of many, found only in exotic sports and luxury cars. This is because there’s never been any such thing as an “everyman” V12.

In 2015, Mercedes-Benz took it up a notch when it dropped a pair of turbos onto its 6.0-liter V12, designated as the M279. The engine, rated with 621 horsepower and 738 ft/lbs of torque, found its home within the S65 AMG coupe.

According to the automaker, the coupe can sprint to 60 mph in four seconds and runs the quarter-mile in 12.3 seconds at 117.8 mph. That’s a lot of speed and running power packed into one sleek, stylish ride.

Elegant in Obsidian Black, this example with 2,112 actual miles is dressed up with a polished grille, wheels, Cuban exterior trim, carbon-fiber accents and a Bengal Red interior. The factory gave it unique options that cater to desires most people didn’t even know they had. Examples include the rear-seat console refrigerator that looks like it would hold two champagne bottles perfectly and the Magic Sky Control roof, which changes from transparent to opaque or anywhere in between with an electronic switch.

Included with the sale of this all-original S65 coupe are the original Window Sticker, two keys, an owner’s manual and a first aid kit. Top-of-the-line for performance, luxuries and style, this AMG is a benchmark in the Mercedes-Benz lineup. Register to bid for the Houston Auction today to secure this stunning car and join the ranks of illustrious drivers of the V12.
